April Fools Day
While no one knows for sure, some historians believe that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. In the Julian Calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1.
People who were slow to get the news continued to celebrate New Year's on April 1 and became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These people were called “April fools.”
The pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.
Watch this April Fool's Day prank from a teacher to his students.
Your assignment is to think of a funny (and appropriate) prank from a teacher to give to students.
You can:
- make a video with your parents to role play
- write a play with the teacher and students speaking
- draw a comic to show what is happening with dialogue to help explain
LOTS OF LOVE,
Teacher Sarah
